sixth form academy
What is the Sixth Form Academy?

The Sixth Form Academy aims to get the best out of students with high achievement at GCSE. To join the Sixth Form Academy you will need at least five GCSEs at A* to B. There is also an Extended Academy for students who achieve at least five A grades. In 2009 our Sixth Form Academy A-E pass rate was 99%, with our A-B pass rate being 44% and our A-C pass rate 75%.

What does the Academy offer?

The Sixth Form Academy will provide a range of activities and opportunities to get you the best possible grades during your time at college and to help you to be fully informed about and prepared for life after college.

A key focus will be on providing the sort of enrichment and extension opportunities that employers and universities look for. You will be regularly informed of trips, university open days, guest speakers and other such opportunities. You will also be guided through using the resources held at the Learning Centre and Careers Centre, to help you to make the right decisions about your future.

As a Sixth Form Academy student you will also be encouraged to challenge yourself through taking additional courses, such as a fifth AS-level or an additional GCSE, and through regular participation in clubs and organised activities such as Creative

Writing Group, Duke of Edinburgh Award and Rock Challenge.

We expect that many Sixth Form Academy students, and in particular Extended Academy students, will be applying for the most competitive courses at the most prestigious universities in the country. We will support you in every step of this process – in addition to the enrichment and extension activities previously mentioned you will be given specialist help and mentoring in writing your UCAS personal statement. Oxbridge candidates and applicants for the most competitive courses will be able to arrange practice interviews and will be provided with examples of entry tests for courses such as Law and Medicine.

At St Vincent you will find a college fully committed to supporting you to achieve your goals; the Sixth Form Academy will tailor this support to your particular needs.
