The Sports AcademyWhat is the Sports Academy?

The Sports Academy @ St Vincent is designed to combine the best possible academic programme with the highest quality sporting provision. Students who wish to pursue their sporting careers to the highest level have the platform to do so through the academy structure.

What does the Academy offer?

Students who join the academy sports teams will have timetabled periods available to them to train, study and educate themselves thoroughly within their sport. Academy students are coached by specialists in their appropriate field receiving first rate coaching and advice throughout their stay here at the college.

The college runs academy teams for basketball, football, netball and Ultimate Frisbee and has forged links with the Solent Kestrels and Solent Suns basketball teams  to provide high-quality, professional coaching.

Academy students will also have the opportunity to participate in local, national and international competitions, widening their current playing experiences, as well as access to sports psychologists, nutritionists and sport and exercise scientists.

The academy aims to give athletes the boost they need to achieve greatness. The college fully supports its academy students and will endeavour to make possible every student’s dreams. In addition you can opt to gain qualifications in First Aid, Life Guarding and specific sport coaching.

Whilst the majority of the academy members will be students studying sport-related courses, places are open to all talented athletes, whatever courses they are studying.

There are also playing opportunities available in the college’s other development sports including rugby, softball, hockey, athletics, cricket, women’s five-aside football and volleyball.

If you play for one of the academy teams or are student following a sports course at St Vincent you automatically become a member of the academy and will be entitled to wear the exclusively-designed academy sports kit and obtain discounts on buying sports equipment. You will also be able to use Leisure Centre facilities for free at all times.
