the visual and media arts academy

The Visual & Media Arts are a dynamic curriculum area at St Vincent offering high-quality courses and opportunities for students looking to make progress in the creative industries. The college has an excellent track record of getting students into university and art college and many of our students are now accomplished professionals in the respective fields.

What is the Visual & Media Arts Academy?

Encompassing fine art, textiles, photography, media, film journalism and video production, the academy is a hot house for young talent in the Gosport and Fareham area. As well as the academic programme, which could be AS & A-Levels, vocational courses or a combination of the two students will be able to extend their experience through trips, competitions and visiting professionals.

What does the Academy offer?

Academy students are taught by practising media and arts specialists whose experience and knowledge will enhance your experience. Both our academic and vocational courses are of high quality and offer proven routes into further study.

Academy students have access to the expertise of our dedicated careers and higher education department, who are committed to ensuring that students make informed and relevant choices about what they do after college. A significant number of former students have gone on to work professionally in the creative industry, working in radio, print & online journalism, publishing and arts administration.

Professional Approach

The creative industries are highly competitive, but at St Vincent we believe that with drive, determination and excellent teaching students can achieve their goals. The professional background of teaching staff in the academy means we expect high standards of our students from Day One, but the rewards are evident.

The college has a close working relationship with Gosport’s Arts Development Officer and our students regularly get involved with local media and arts events, as well as working on projects with the community, such as the Vision for Lee video produced by academy students at the college in 2008.

Who is a Visual & Media Arts Academy student?

If you study two or more Media or Arts courses at St Vincent you will automatically become a member of the academy, as well as if you are doing one of our vocational courses, such as City& Guilds Media Techniques or BTEC Art & Design.

If you are committed to making a career in the creative industries then becoming part of the Visual & Media Arts Academy is the perfect first step to achieving your goals. Go for it!
