If you are an ex-full time student of the college and intend to put in an application for higher education, the college will provide an academic reference for you.
• Deadlines for application
The deadlines for your application are no different to applications from current students. To give yourself the best possible chance of getting the course you want, you need to apply as early as possible, preferably before the end of October the year before you plan to start your course. Note that applying just before the UCAS deadline of 15th January does not allow time for a reference to be added, so you need to have your application completed well before this date! You can apply after this date, but some courses will be full up, so you may not have a full range of courses to choose from.
• How to apply
You should apply online using UCAS Apply. Click here to go to the UCAS Apply Homepage
• When you register an online application, you will be asked if you applying through a school or college, or individually. Even though you have left college, you should not apply as an individual applicant! It is harder for the college to add a reference if you do this!
• You should ‘apply through a school college’ using the college buzzword, which for 2010 entry is:
clocktower2010
This changes each year, so for 2011 entry it is clocktower2011, etc.
• For all college references, your academic referee is the college principal, and your reference will go through the usual college processes. Do not ask a member of staff to act as your referee. The exception to this is that you are doing one adult education course only, in which case your tutor should be asked to supply a reference. If you unclear who should be your referee, contact the college’s HE Manager.
NB Just pressing 'Pay/Send' option does not in itself alert the college that you have made an application which requires a reference! You need to print out a hard copy of your application and bring /send it to CIO in the Student Services together with payment (£7 for one choice, £17 for two or more choices), to:
College Information Office
St Vincent College
Mill Lane
Gosport
PO12 4QA
... otherwise your application will not be processed by the college and sent to UCAS!
