Students from the St Vincent Media and Film department were invited to Southampton Solent University to take part in the recording of a TV game show and visit the production facilities at the city centre campus. Two teams of St Vincent students went head to head in a quiz show called Walk the Block, which was being recorded as part of the TV Production course at the university. After a close match, the girl’s team was victorious and progressed to the final to win themselves the prize of shopping voucher.
Following the recording, the students were able to take a tour of the Media School at the university to see the other production facilities, including green screen studios, Apple Mac editing suites and an extensive equipment store. Following the tour, the students were able to take control of the camera and the mixing desk to record their own version of the show, gaining an invaluable insight into the whole process.
Film and Media Teacher Rob Hind said,
“This was a brilliant opportunity for our students to get a taste of university life, as well as a chance to experience the hands on challenge of producing an episode of a TV show in a professional studio environment. The students did a great job, performing their roles superbly and working as a team to get the production completed. We’re very grateful to the Southern University Network for covering the costs of the trip and enabling us to bring the students at no cost to them. This is definitely a trip we’ll be wanting to repeat next year.”
