Course outline:

This is a part time course and will make up one third of your timetable. You will also have the opportunity to improve your Maths and English alongside this course.

Course Structure:

This course is assessed through external assessment as well as internally assessed coursework tasks.
Unit 1 – Practical Sport
Unit 2 – Anatomy and Physiology for Sport
Unit 3 – Fitness Testing and Training
Unit 9 – Planning and Leading Sports Activities

You must also take part in the NCS programme as part of your course, this is compulsory and contributes towards your BTEC grade.

If you gain a Merit overall and passed Maths and English qualifications, then you can progress

    Minimum entry requirements:

    Five GCSEs Level 2 or above, or a Distinction for the BTEC Introductory Diploma in Sport (or similar Level 1 qualification)

    • This is a full time course in its own right. Students who are yet to gain a Level 4 in English and/or Maths will need to resit those GCSEs alongside this course
    • You will learn a wide variety of sports within lessons, as well as have the opportunity to play in one of the College sports teams

    Skills developed:

    • ICT skills, as all coursework will be Word processed
    • You will also learn how to use PowerPoint and Publisher
    • You will learn a variety of research skills as well as how to
    work in a group and as an individual

    • A Levels
    • Other BTECs at Level 3
    • Employment within the sports leisure industry

    • Internally assessed coursework and no formal exams
    • Each unit is graded as a Pass, Merit or Distinction
    • You must gain a Merit overall and have passed Maths and English qualifications in order to progress on to the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma
