Course outline:

Suitable for students who need a science GCSE for their chosen career path, this course is an introduction to biological sciences. You will cover a variety of topics relevant to the world around you such as IVF, obesity, bird flu and global warming.

This course aims to encourage the development of an interest in, and enthusiasm for, science through the development of a critical approach to scientific evidence and methods. Through this course you will examine how science works and it’s essential role in society and acquire and apply scientific skills, knowledge and understanding necessary for progression to further learning.

Course structure:

Biology 1
• Humans and their environment
Looking at: responding to change; health, drugs and infection; living things in their environment and evolution

Biology 2
• Nutrition, homeostasis and inheritance

Biology 3
• Transport and exchange of materials in plants and animals, biotechnology and micro-biology.
