FUNCTIONAL SKILLS ENGLISH
The Functional Skills Adult English Certificate is a recognised English qualification for those who prefer not to take GCSE.
Functional skills are essential skills in English that enable everyone to deal with the practical problems and challenges of life, at home, in education and at work. They are essential to all our lives; for example, they help us recognise good value deals when making purchases and in writing an effective application letter.
We have small classes where you will receive a great deal of individual help and will be able to discuss each step with your tutor; giving you greater confidence in reading, writing, speaking and listening.
The course is based on skills, which will be of use to you, such as writing letters, following instructions, using reference materials and taking notes. Every piece of work will be checked by your tutor and an outside assessor will assess assignments.
Prior to attending this course you will be invited to attend an initial assessment. This will provide your current level of ability in various English skill areas. Once your level has been ascertained, you will be invited to attend a class for 2 hrs per week at your designated level, based at St. Vincent College.
This is also a course you can take at your own pace and at a level you can cope with. You can take Entry Level 1, 2 or 3 or Level 1 or Level 2, depending on the level achieved in the assessment and how confident you feel.
Functional Skills are a key to success. If this is the course for you, then we look forward to seeing you soon!
Duration: Functional Skills classes are run over one year and are offered as both daytime and evening classes.
