Who is this course for?

This is for those interested in the basic aspects of criminology.

What will I achieve?

During the course you will gain knowledge of the basic concepts in criminology and look at:
how crime may develop
what is crime and the factors that affect this definition including: culture, religion, age, time and circumstance
the different categories of crime including violent and organised crime
whether people are born criminals or criminal behaviour is the result of upbringing and experience
the criminal justice system, including police and the prison system
the above topics will be analysed in relation of gender, social class and ethnicity
you will also have the opportunity to carry out your own research into an infamous killer of your choice

Topics will be related to life case studies such as the Kray twins and Charles Bronson.

How will my progress be recorded?

Your tutor will work with you to complete a Learner Progress Form, this form will record your progress throughout the duration of the course.

Parking information

There is parking situated within Siskin School, through the school gates and to the left. The school gates may be closed during school start and finish, but not locked and can still be accessed. Parking is also available on the road outside the Centre – please do not park on the yellow zigzag lines.
