When applying to a Sixth Form College you get to pick the subjects you study, but what do you do when the choice becomes overwhelming?
Here’s some advice from our Admissions team about choosing what to study at St Vincent College.
PLAY TO YOUR STRENGTHS
Have a think about the subjects you enjoy and do well in, as this will motivate you to succeed. It also helps to consider the type of learner you are. Are you better at exams or is coursework your strength? Your answers may influence what you choose to study with us.
BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND
If you have a career or university course in mind, do some research as this may influence your course choices. For example, university websites and prospectuses contain lots of information about course entry requirements and progression possibilities. Or why not try SACU’s free Career Quiz and work backwards from there?
EXPLORE NEW OPTIONS
At St Vincent, we offer a range of courses that you may not have had the chance to study at your school. Be sure to explore these new options as they may relate more closely to your interests and aspirations than subjects you have previously studied. You can easily explore the courses we offer on our website!
CHOOSE FOR YOU
Your family and friends might have opinions about what you should study, but your ultimate decision should be one you are happy with. There is no need to worry about being separated from your friends. Our college timetable will allow you plenty of time to study together in our communal areas and library.
GIVE YOURSELF TIME
Keep an eye on application deadlines, but don’t feel the need to rush – it’s important to attend a range of Open Evenings and explore what the colleges near you offer. Keep in mind that you can apply to multiple colleges and your course decisions aren’t finalised until summer enrolment.
