Digital media students take to the water

THE creative talents of St Vincent’s digital media students were rewarded with a day out on the water thanks to Sail HYSTS (Havant Youth Sail Training Scheme).

The students designed some promotional leaflets for the group and as a thank you they were invited to a day’s sailing at Langstone Harbour, where Sail HYSTS is based.

The group, which this year is marking its 50th anniversary, gives young people aged eight to 18 the chance to try sailing in a safe, fun and structured environment. As well as getting fresh air and exercise, sailing offers a wide range of invaluable life skills, from problem solving to confidence and teamwork.

A spokesman for the group said: “The students were all very polite young adults and a credit to the college. It was a pleasure to introduce them to sailing.”

One of the students said: “It was the best day ever. It was good to see for ourselves what Sail HYSTS do and I am excited that our leaflet may encourage more young people to have fun on the water.”
