Greenpeace talk on climate change inspires SPL students

GREENPEACE campaigner Tony Sudworth inspired students at St Vincent Sixth Form College’s School of Personalised Learning with a talk about climate change.

The Greenpeace member and recent Green Party candidate spoke to 50 students about the threat climate change poses to the environment.

Head of Specialist Education Melanie Williams said: “Tony’s passion for his subject shone through and the students got a real understanding of the world, and their responsibilities in it. Opportunities to hear from passionate people like Tony bring these ideas to life for our students.”

His talk in the Jervis Gallery was made more accessible and inclusive thanks to signing from St Vincent’s new British Sign Language Communication support worker Karen Henty.

The SPL supports students with special educational needs and disabilities. A bespoke educational experience and continual care creates a safe space for young adults to progress. Courses from pre-entry to level 2 are offered within the school, along with chances to hear from specialist speakers. St Vincent Sixth Form College is a proud member of The Lighthouse Learning Trust (LLT). The Trust recognises the world is a changing place and champions sustainability throughout its day-to-day activities.
