Art students from St Vincent Sixth Form College have just had their work displayed in Rope Quays, an apartment complex by Gosport Harbour.
A few years ago, the director of a local property business reached out to Chloe Cusse, Art teacher at St Vincent Sixth Form College, to see if any of her students would like their artwork displayed in the buildings.
The aim was to enhance the look of the interior and give the students a chance for their work to be seen.
Chloe reflected “the aim of the project was always to be very broad and open ended. We wanted to show off what a diverse range of techniques our students had to offer. The goal was very much to enhance the space”.
The students are studying a variety of subjects such as A Level Photography, A Level Graphics and A Level Fine Art.
Chloe is enthusiastic about her students gaining the chance to exhibit their work in the local community.
“I hope they’ve got a bit of ownership over the quality of their work, making sure it’s exhibition ready, and a little bit of confidence from being selected”, said Chloe.
The project started when a company director at Rope Quays contacted Chloe. Property Manager, Geoff Nancollis, helped Chloe select suitable artwork.
Geoff is pleased with the outcomes “a lot of people have said it’s lovely. One of the first things people see is the entrance, and they see the art, and they think this is a nice place to be. It gives you that welcoming feeling”.
