A Level and diploma students from St Vincent Sixth Form College have just returned from a university and careers fair at Bournemouth University.
During the busy UCAS event, first-years could find out about apprenticeships, degrees and jobs after college.

While Bethany learned a lot from chatting to the exhibitors, the Law and Sociology student also saw a university up close and personal.
“It was a good day. I enjoyed talking about their courses. Some of them have different law modules you can take, personalised to your taste,” said Bethany.

The idea of going to university also came alive for Applied Science and Criminology student Ruby-Elizabeth.
“I got a lot of opportunities to find out what universities to go to, what they offer and how it would be on campus. It was very informative,” said Ruby-Elizabeth.

Seeing Ruby-Elizabeth and Bethany grab a glimpse into their future pleased the college’s committed careers team.
“We do this trip every year to help them explore their options after college. It’s to show them they can aspire and push themselves. Talking to the exhibitors really builds their confidence,” said Claire Swann, Southern Universities Network Progression Manager.
The trip followed hot on the heels of the recent careers fair at St Vincent and day out to The University of Reading.

This year, Claire was especially keen on students from sister college Richard Taunton popping along the south coast too.

So to see T Level student Godwin arrive on the coach from Southampton brought a smile to Claire’s face.
As for Godwin, he certainly didn’t regret the eye-opening experience.
“My day went really well, getting to know more universities, talking to them in person and getting to narrow my university choice and asking about apprenticeships too. It was really enjoyable,” said Godwin.

Ruby-Elizabeth, Bethany and Godwin can take another step potentially towards university by registering on UCAS soon, with the support of Claire and colleagues.
