What is the course about (aims)

Creative writing is one of the most satisfying occupations in the world. Not only can it be therapeutic; it can be profitable and extremely enjoyable. It doesn’t matter if you have never put pen to paper before. Make new friends with people and words.

Write with a tutor; currently publishing in magazines here and abroad, who is also a best selling crime novelist and whose aim during this course is to help you find and develop that gift of imaginative writing.

Students who have followed this course have had their writing commended – some have published. You may have the ambition to follow in their footsteps.

Are there specific requirements for joining?

Only a good imagination and a sense of humour!

Do I need specific equipment or clothes?

Paper and pen.

How will I learn?

Learning will be tutor led and you will be encouraged to explore, compare, imagine, describe, and discuss to help you begin that novel you’ve longed to start. Write that short story.

Will there be homework?

Homework is not mandatory but set by the tutor for students to gauge their progress.

Will there be additional costs?

Purchase of a writing pad and pen.

Course outline (outcomes)

By the end of the course, students should be able to:
• Understand the craft needed to write a short story
• Start or continue with writing a novel

How will my progress be recorded?

Your tutor will work with you to assist in the completion of an Individual Learning Plan. This is a flexible working document agreed between the learner and the tutor. It will be used to record your progress and it will be reviewed and updated within the duration of the course.
