What is the course about (aims)
This course is part of our Elevate programme, and can be taken as an individual course or alongside other courses in the Programme. It will introduce you to a range of key concepts, theories and perspectives in the discipline and provide an ideal preparation for study of social science subjects on the Access to HE Social Sciences Diploma, including Criminology, Psychology and Sociology.
Topics covered may include:
- Different types of crime
- Biological/psychological/sociological explanations of crime
- Criminal Justice System (CJS)
- Consideration of criminality with reference to gender, ethnicity, class, age
- Issues including media, drugs, homicide and anti-social behaviour
The course will also include a foundation in academic study skills appropriate to this level, which will provide valuable preparation for further study, including the Access to HE Diploma course.
How will my progress be recorded?
Your tutor will work with you to assist in the completion of an Individual Learning Plan. This is a flexible working document agreed between the learner and the tutor. It will be used to record your progress and it will be reviewed and updated within the duration of the course.
