3D Design

Course Summary

It is primarily concerned with designing for product, architecture, interior, jewellery and stage. You will design innovative concepts that consider not only aesthetic and technical issues, but also the environment and the role of the designer. You will master design from conception to production and you’ll experiment creatively with traditional design production processes as well as 3D digital technologies including CAD/CAM. You will experiment with media and develop and refine your ideas before presenting your outcomes.

This course will open your eyes to the possibilities of 3D design and the difference you can make to the world. It is delivered through kill development in Year 1 and 2 course work units, with project work supported by lessons, demonstrations, professional experience and tutorials.

Assessment

60% coursework, in the form of a personal investigation which is presented as a design portfolio and practical outcome(s). In addition to the coursework there is an externally set practical, which is worth 40% of the overall A Level mark.

There are also plenty of ways to enhance your timetable; this could include health and fitness, work experience and a varied enrichment programme where you can select activities that you may be interested in. You will have a dedicated tutor and support staff available to help
you learn and develop your study skills alongside thinking about which career direction you would like to take, and the skills you need to develop.

Progression

Progression to university, an apprenticeship or employment.

Entry Requirements

Minimum of five GCSEs at Grade 4 or above. A in a GCSE or Level 2 Art or 3D Design and Technology course is desired.
