Course Summary
Develop the practical skills and industry knowledge needed to begin a career in carpentry and joinery. Working in our purpose-built Construction Centre, you’ll be taught by experienced trades professionals and gain hands-on experience using industry-standard tools and equipment.
You’ll learn how to carry out a range of carpentry tasks while developing an understanding of safe working practices, teamwork and professional behaviour. Whether you’re starting at Level 1 or progressing to Level 2, this course will help you build the confidence and technical skills needed for further study, an apprenticeship or employment in the construction industry.
Key Topics
Carpentry, including building methods, first fixing, second fixing, structural carcassing and maintenance. You will also cover aspects of Health and Safety issues and how to maintain good working relationships, both with colleagues and customers. You will be trained by an experienced tradesperson in our purpose-designed Construction Centre.
Assessment
There are no formal qualifications needed for a Level 1 study programme, just a willingness to learn and enthusiasm to develop your aspirations.
Progression
Level 2 Carpentry courses, apprenticeships or employment.
Careers: Building inspector, carpenter, construction site supervisor, construction project manager, interior finisher, joiner, renovation specialist, set designer.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal qualifications needed for a Level 1 study programme, just a willingness to learn and enthusiasm to develop your aspirations.
English and maths will be part of your study programmme if you have not already achieved a GCSE grade 4 or a Functional Skills level 2.
