Course Summary
If you haven’t yet achieved a grade 4 in GCSE English, this course gives you the opportunity to develop the reading, writing and communication skills needed to gain this important qualification.
You’ll explore a range of texts, learning how to analyse language, identify key ideas and understand writers’ viewpoints. You’ll also develop your writing skills for different purposes and audiences, building confidence in both creative and technical writing. Through structured lessons, regular feedback and guided practice, you’ll strengthen your ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a variety of contexts.
This qualification can be studied alongside any other course and supports progression into further study, apprenticeships and employment.
Key Topics
You’ll develop the skills to write confidently and effectively for a range of purposes and audiences. Whether you’re describing, explaining, informing, instructing or presenting an argument, you’ll learn how to adapt your writing to suit different situations using appropriate vocabulary, grammar and structure.
As the course progresses, you’ll strengthen your understanding of narrative and extended writing, while learning how writers use language and literary techniques to engage their readers. You’ll also develop the confidence to analyse texts in detail, communicate your ideas clearly and accurately, and demonstrate a secure command of Standard English.
