LITERATURE IS MORE THAN THE STUDY OF BOOKS, IT IS THE STUDY OF WORDS, LANGUAGE, SOCIETY AND CULTURE.

A Level Literature will allow you to read a wide range of texts (poems, plays and prose) and comment on the details of them. You might learn about feminism, class, gender, love or London or Paris or Alaska.

This takes you a step further than GCSE, and will build on the skills you developed. Each exam is open book – meaning no more memorising of quotes but instead analysing with your own ideas.

Entry requirements:

5 GCSE Grade 4 and above, ideally a 5 in English.

What students will learn:

Prose, drama, poetry and skills of analysis and essay writing. They will examine pre 1900 literature including a chosen Shakespeare play as well as more modern literature.
