Course Summary

Do you want to communicate in a visual and creative way? This course will make you confident with a variety of graphic design techniques and processes.

Experimentation is encouraged through practical lessons and gallery visits. Sketchbooks are used to record ideas and other artists work.

This course is perfect for students that are highly creative and passionate about visually expressing and communicating a variety of themes.

On this course students will learn how to visuallycommunicate themes, concepts and statements. Experimentation is highly encouraged through use of practical hand rendered and digital mediums. Digital sketchbooks are used to reflect and record work.

This course is suited to students that are highly creative with an interest in strong
presentation of design.

Key Topics

Students will develop extensive digital skills including use of Adobe Creative suite. Illustrator,
Photoshop and InDesign are combined with practical workshops in print making and collage to
further knowledge in visual communication.

Students will also develop analytical skills and explore theory based creative learning.

There is a strong focus on presentation techniques and encouragement of the creative processes.

Assessment

Course work and externally set project portfolio with 15 hour exam.

Enrichment Opportunities

You will be taught througha combination of practical and digital workshops, artist analysis and theory based creative learning.

Students have the opportunity to exhibit locally in spaces outside of the college campus. Regular guest speakers from a variety of industries including freelance illustration and digital marketing.

Progression

Junior graphic design apprenticeship.

Apprenticeship in advertising.

Art foundation course.

Degrees in illustration/animation/graphic design/marketing/advertising.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs at grade 9-4. Must include grade 4 in Art or a creative subject.
