Course Summary
We discuss how movements like Marxists and Feminists have sought to change society and
evaluate their progress. Has post-industrial society and ensuing globalisation made some previous theories out of date? What factors lie behind the identity you have formed and does this
change from personal to societal?
The skills and techniques used by sociological researchers are evaluated.The key skill is to think critically and see different perspectives. The course provides the opportunity to fit theories to reality. Research skills are taught and then trialled by learners. How to discuss issues objectively and maturely. How to analyse and evaluate policies, theories and research. Exam technique is important and developed over the 2 years of the course
