Course Description

This qualification is designed to give learners skills to help them progress to the next level of vocational learning and Level 3 courses might include access to:
• Level 3 BTEC Law & Criminology
• BTEC Health & Social Care
• BTEC Business and
• A-Level Sociology (accompanied ideally with level 5 English Language)

Post college the skills, knowledge and understanding would suit progression into entry level roles within social work, nursing, healthcare, education or social care.

Portfolios of evidence should include a variety of evidence to demonstrate that the assessment criteria for each unit have been met. Examples of evidence that could be included are:
• Observation record
• Questions and discussions
• Photographs
• Video
• Worksheets
• Tape recordings
• Self-assessments
• Workbook activities
• Final multiple-choice tests.

Key skills that will be covered will include:
Learning about using theoretical approaches in sociology, research methods, ethical research, use of secondary data

Units covered:
• Intro to Sociology
• Research Methods in Sociology
• Development of Social Policy
• Social Psychology
• Psychology
• Information literacy
• Research project
• Study management
• Plagiarism
• Revision and exam skills
• Introduction to Humanities

One year

You should be able to show that you have a standard of literacy, numeracy and general education equivalent to five GCSEs at Grade 3 or above

• Constructing critical arguments
• Oral and written discussion
• Researching and analysing

• BTEC Business and
• A-Level Sociology
(accompanied ideally with Level 5 English Language)

All units are internally assessed through the production of a portfolio of evidence that covers the relevant assessment criteria, internally assessed and verified by the centre and then externally verified by Ascentis.
