BTEC Level 1

Introductory Certificate in Vocational Studies

Course Description

This is a full time course with Maths and English (if a Grade 4 has not been achieved) and will be your whole timetable.

This course is assessed through internal assessment and you will complete five units:

  • Taking Part in Fitness Testing
  • Playing Sport
  • Contribute to Running an Event
  • Being Organised
  • Developing a Personal Progression Plan
One year

There are no formal entry requirements for this course

This is a full time course in its own right. Students who are yet to gain a Grade 4 in English and/or Maths will need to resit those GCSEs or undertake a different English and/or Maths qualification alongside this course
• You will learn a wide variety of sports and fitness activities within lessons, as well as have the opportunity to play in one of the College sports teams

• ICT skills, as all coursework will be Word processed
• You will also learn how to use PowerPoint and Publisher
• You will learn a variety of research skills as well as how to work in a group and as an individual

• BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Sport
• BTEC Level 2 Public Services (Teamwork and Personal Development in the Community)
• Other BTECs at Level 2
• Employment within the sports, public services or leisure industry

• Internally assessed coursework and no formal exams
• Each unit is graded as a Pass, Merit or Distinction
• You must gain a Merit overall and have passed your Maths and English qualifications in order to progress on to the BTEC Level 2 courses
