MATHEMATICS FUNCTIONAL SKILLS

LEVEL 1

Course Description:

The Functional Skills Mathematics course will enable the student to gain confidence and fluency in Mathematics along with a new and positive attitude towards the subject that they have yet to gain a significant grade or qualification in. Students will convey their confidence in using Mathematics by demonstrating a sound grasp of Mathematical knowledge and skills and apply it to solve Mathematical problems.

MATHEMATICS

GCSE

Course Description:

There are two courses available at Level 2. 

 

GCSE (Higher) 

This is for students who already have a grade 4 at GCSE Maths and want to improve it for future progression on to courses and employment which require a higher level of Maths skills. 

 

GCSE (Foundation) 

A one year course for students who have achieved a grade 3 at GCSE and need to achieve at least a grade 4.

MATHEMATICS

A LEVEL

Course Description:

Building on GCSE skills, you will learn how to translate problems from mathematical and non-mathematical contexts into mathematical processes, interpreting solutions to problems in their original context and where appropriate, evaluate their accuracy and limitations. Using knowledge and support from your teachers you will develop skills on translating situations in context into mathematical models and evaluating the outcomes of modelling; recognising the limitations of models and how to explain how to refine them.
