College Confirms September Opening

St Vincent College in Gosport has confirmed it will be opening its doors for the new academic year with a full onsite timetable when teaching resumes next month.

This follows their recent results success which saw Level 3 BTEC and A-Level students achieve a 99% pass rate with 63% awarded high grades. After a thorough assessment, implementation of safety measures and internal audit, the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Committee of St Vincent College has approved the opening of its site for full classroom delivery from Monday 7th September.

With the introduction of safety measures throughout college buildings, maximising the extensive space in classrooms and learning facilities, and bespoke signage reminding students and staff of handwashing and social distancing, the college is keen to welcome itscommunity back to its historic site in Mill Lane, albeit under the ‘new normal’.

‘We have been working hard to find ways of reintroducing the classroom and shared learning that so many of our students thrive in,’ explains Principal, Andy Grant. ‘We have every confidence that those starting and returning to us will understand and respect the measures we have introduced.’

The Health, Safety and Wellbeing Committee, which comprises Andy, the senior management team, health, safety and wellbeing representatives, medical professionals, Unions officers and a link Governor approved the decision having assessed the extensive measures the College have put in place to ensure that students and staff can learn and work in safe and supportive environment.

‘The committee combines many years of experience in health, safety and wellbeing, we have worked with all government guidance to date and are now confident we have everything in place to keep students, teachers and support staff as safe as possible,’ says Andy.

‘People understand that the situation is ongoing and that we have to respond to any change in government guidelines, so it would be foolish for us to give any guarantees for the future of the academic year, but we are committed to creating the very best learning environment for our community, whose safety and wellbeing is always our top priority.’

St Vincent College is celebrating the recent achievement of excellent students results, despite the challenges presented by COVID-19 and concerns over national results. Enrolment begins next week with places still available. Anyone looking for advice, support and education opportunities can call 023 9258 8311 or email
