Course Description:

Biology is the study of living things. This means that the subject is as diverse as the living world itself. The course encompasses study of viruses and bacteria, plants and animals, but concentrates mainly on human systems.

Biology GCSE is a qualification that is highly regarded by employers’ and it is an excellent preparation for many careers such as nurse, technician and agricultural work. If you are considering teaching as a career, Biology GCSE fulfils the requirements for a science qualification at GCSE.

APPLIED SCIENCE BTEC

LEVEL 2

Course Description:

The Principles of Applied Science Award covers the key scientific principles vital for both scientists and citizens of the future. It develops and exemplifies principles in applied and vocational contexts, leading to an understanding of how the principles are applied in practice. This course involves a mixture of practical work and theories and supports knowledge gained at GCSE.

APPLIED SCIENCE BTEC

LEVEL 3 SINGLE EXTENDED CERTIFICATE

Course Description:

If you enjoy the practical side of science, this is the course for you. This A-Level equivalent course focuses on the application of science in the world of work. Alongside developing your core knowledge of biology, physics and chemistry, you will also study and complete units in laboratory techniques, scientific principles, and human physiology.

APPLIED SCIENCE BTEC

LEVEL 3 EXTENDED DIPLOMA

Course Description:

If you enjoy the practical side of science, this is the course for you. This three A-Level equivalent course focuses on the application of science in the world of work. Learners can choose a project to work on form their field of choice such as biomedical or forensic science.  Alongside developing your core knowledge of biology, physics and chemistry, you will also study and complete units in laboratory techniques, scientific principles, diseases and infections, contemporary issues in science, and medical physics.

APPLIED HUMAN BIOLOGY BTEC

LEVEL 3

Course Description:

This course is designed to inspire you and develop your enthusiasm for human biology. Whether you want to take this course for interest or whether you need it to support your future career.  You will learn the key concepts of human biology that will enable you to understand the workings of the inner human body, including all body systems and the intricacies of homeostasis and how we stay alive.  You will learn about small molecules like DNA to large body systems like the cardiovascular system.   

 

You will gain insight into current issues in human biology including stem cells, immunisation, heart disease, genetic manipulation, and novel treatments. You will learn why some of the deadliest diseases are incurable and where diseases come from, how to prevent and how to treat them.
