This is an introductory course; equivalent to Level 2, for those who want to take the first step in training to be a counsellor – this course won’t teach you to be a counsellor but will prepare you for the next level of practitioner training.

It is suitable for teachers, nurses, health and education support staff, job seekers and anyone wishing to improve their interpersonal skills or learn about the basics of the counselling role.

This course provides an excellent starting point for those wishing to go on to take the Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills.


What is the course about?

Learners will be introduced to basic counselling skills, including communication, creation of an effective environment and identifying their own motivation, values and beliefs as part of personal development to support the counselling role.

How will I learn?

Learning are assessed through tutor and peer observation, and completion of written reflective learning journals.

How will my progress be recorded?

Your tutor will work with you to assist in the completion of a Learner Progress Sheet. It will be used to record your progress and it will be reviewed and updated within the duration of the course.
