Level 2

Course Description

This is a part time course and will make up one third of your timetable. You will also have the opportunity to improve your Maths and English alongside this course.

Level 2 Sport is assessed through internally assessed coursework tasks.

  • Practical Sport
  • Anatomy and Physiology for Sport
  • Fitness Testing and Training
  • Planning and Leading Sports Activities

You must also take part in the NCS programme in October/November as part of your course. This is compulsory and
contributes towards your CTEC grade.

If you gain a Merit overall and pass Maths and English qualifications, then you can progress onto a Level 3 programme.

Unit 3 – Fitness Testing and Training 

Unit 9 – Planning and Leading Sports Activities

One year

  • ICT skills, as all coursework will be Word processed
  • You will also learn how to use PowerPoint and Publisher
  • You will learn a variety of research skills as well as how to work as part of a group and as an individual 

This is a full-time course in its own right. Students who are yet to gain a Grade 4 in English and/or Maths will need to resit those GCSEs alongside this course 

You will learn a wide variety of sports within lessons, as well as having the opportunity to play in one of the College Sports Teams. 

You will learn a wide variety of sports within lessons, as well as have the opportunity to play in one of the College Sports Teams. College currently have a Men’s Football Team, GBFC Elite Team, and a Netball Team. 

As part of this course all students must complete the NCS (National Citizenship Scheme) during October/November in year 1. This is free and consists of a week’s residential, involving activities such as surfing, coasteering and high ropes, followed by a social action project. This is compulsory and contributes towards your CTEC grade. 

  • OCRLevel 3 Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity – You must gain a Merit overall and have passed Maths and English qualifications at Grade 4 or above in order to progress onto a Level 3 Courses 
  • A Levels
  • Other BTECs/CTECsat Level 3
  • Employment within the sports leisure industry

Five GCSEs Grade 2 or above, or a Distinction for the BTEC Introductory Diploma in Sport (or similar Level 1 qualification).

  • Internally assessed coursework and no formal exams
  • Each unit is graded as a Pass, Merit or Distinction
