Gosport Business Awards at St Vincent College

Entries flooding in for Gosport Business Awards as nominations deadline looms

Organisers of the Gosport Business Awards are delighted at the response from businesses who are rushing for the chance to showcase their excellence – but say there is still plenty of time to enter.

St Vincent College has teamed up with Gosport Borough Council, The News in Portsmouth and creative agency 22Midnight to launch the awards, whose sponsors include Standard Aero, Frost Creative and Historic England. Entry is free and easy and the closing date for nominations is May 3.

The awards, which will culminate in a glittering ceremony at the college’s Jervis Gallery on May 23, is designed to showcase the town’s companies, shops and services and celebrate the contribution they make to the community and the local economy.

St Vincent Principal Andy Grant said: “We’ve been really pleased that so many businesses have already entered but there is still room for more.

“We’re really excited that we can use this event to highlight the many fantastic businesses in our town. We work with a number of employers, both large and small, and have long thought that they should have the chance to shout about themselves and to give people a chance to appreciate what they do.

“We are delighted that Gosport Borough Council and The News are supporting the awards, they are both hugely involved in the community.”

The awards have eight categories:

  • Independent Small Business of the Year
  • Commitment to Supporting Talent in Business
  • Best Use of Heritage in Business
  • Independent Retail Business of the Year
  • Independent Tourism/Hospitality Business of the Year
  • Independent Cultural and Creativity Business of the Year
  • Commitment to Sustainability Award
  • Start-up Business of the Year (less than two years)
  • Overall Business Award (selected from winners of the above categories)

All winners will be featured in The News. Editor in chief Mark Waldron said: “The News enjoys nothing more than celebrating the successes of our local communities and that includes shining the spotlight on those businesses which are really making a difference.

“We have just completed another successful Business Excellence Awards with a sell-out evening at The Guildhall and we are delighted to be bringing that focus right into the heart of Gosport by teaming up with St Vincent College, the council and 22Midnight to launch these awards.”

Mr Grant said: “The awards aren’t just about the big employers, we want to celebrate the small businesses and shops who are there day in, day out for the community and who go the extra mile to make life better for their clients and customers.

“We also want to highlight those companies and businesses who contribute to tourism, heritage, culture and, importantly, sustainability. We want Gosport’s business awards to reflect every aspect of life in the town.”

To take part, businesses can use the entry form below. The deadline for entries is May 3 and the awards ceremony takes place on May 23 from 6 to 9pm. Every shortlisted nominee will be given two free tickets to the ceremony, which will offer food, refreshments, a licensed bar and entertainment.
